It was important to Tom that college education would be in the reach of as many families
as possible. That's why we offer a large, generous scholarship program. If you're a
good student, if you've got a leadership record, and in some cases if you're a good athlete
you can get a scholarship here of a significant amount of money. And I'll tell you, if you're
a Florida student, it's even better. Florida students are eligible for the Bright Futures
scholarship and the Florida Resident Assistance Grant (the FRAG grant). And those two combined
are about $5,000. And if you take that amount of money, and you take the amount of scholarships
that we make available on average to our students, you may find that you're paying far less than
you would pay to go Kindergarden at the Royal Palm Academy in Naples. We do that intentionally.
We price this university within reach of families. I think it's ridiculous that colleges are
charging $42,000 for tuition and fees to go to a school where you have graduate assistants
teaching you your first semester. Here you get PhD's from the start. 90 some percent
of our professors have PhD's. The classroom instruction is top quality and it's affordable.
So we feel very much that part of our mission is to try to provide scholarship assistance.
If you look at some of our seniors that are here, thanks to Tom Monaghan, they've received
huge subsidies right out of his wallet for their scholarship and their study.
