What's up What's up everybody! This is Jewell aka Quepea. Alright so in continuation of
my um advice. Like I know everything. But I don't, but anyway, ah these are things like
I said that I come across, um I just want to share with people my thoughts, especially
the independent artist. Because I see some pitfalls that you as a independent artist
will fall into. And I um... Like I said before no I am not in the industry. OK um but I run
a business and businesses I run um do happen to have some simularities with being an independent
artist. The key similarities is, one as an independent artist you are your own business,
OK. You produce a product which is music. You package that product and then you sell
that product. In return your hoping to get some money back, so that you can live off
of. So um, we as people have a similar interest in running a business. So my next topic I
wanted to touch on here with the independent artist is Being Social and connecting with
fans via Social Media. Now there is a huge; I think there is a huge misconception about
being social. OK, a lot of people get out here, you sign up on facebook, you sign up
on twitter, you sign up on all these other places and spaces with the dream and desire
to build fans. Get you music out there, find out who likes you, find out and connect with
these people, you know that is great. But once you connect with them, then what? OK
so you post a status, you post this, you post that. But being social is a two way street.
OK if I send you a message and I say hey what's up? And you don't respond to me well that
is not being social. That's just like me sending you a message. So as a independent artist
that can be a demand... social media can be demanding on your time. And I am here to tell
you after my day of doing my business. I come home and I get online, and I check my emails,
the several accounts that I have. I check on facebook, I check my twitter account, I
check my blogs, I spend three or four hours in the morning before I go out and do my business,
and another three to four hours when I come home after I do my business. So Social Media
is very time consuming. So as an independent artist, of course you've got song writing,
you've got pictures, interviews, and all this other stuff that you are trying to get together,
and all this other stuff; in addition to Social Media. So you might not be able to be on Social
Media as much as me so you are going to have to find what works for you. If facebook works
for you then do facebook and do it well, OK. When you have fans out there and your telling
them Hey this is my latest song on youtube, watch my video, do this, do that. And they
comment about that, they give you feed back, thank them or whatever. Now your not going
to get all the time thumbs up. Your not realistically. OK. As you know Ms Niki, deleted her twitter
account because she wasn't happy about criticism. Your in Show Business, your in the entertainment
business. That is the most critical business you could find. OK, if you don't like criticism.
You don't like people telling you, I don't like your music, I don't like your beats,
I don't like the lyrics, I don't like the song, I don't like what you wear, I don't
like your hair style blah, blah blah. Get out of the business. For Real OK. Drop it,
go to McDonalds, become an ad agent, do something else. Do not do entertainment. Because people
can be very mean. You thought being in high school and grade school people was mean. You
aint scene sh*t, until you are in the entertainment business. Ah critics always want to tell you
this, that and the third. So my point to this is. Social Media is about being social. It
is about communication, it's a two way street. It's between you and your fans and more fans.
OK so you want to promote your music, use social media great. Do it and do it well.
Find the one that works for you and work it. But don't ignore your audience, because you
are going to shoot yourself in the foot. You really are. So peace out everybody, I got
another one coming. Thumbs up, Thanks! bye bye.
