A new Graduate Research scholarship was established in the Department of Biological Sciences in
honor of longtime professor Dr. Bill Simco. Sarah Carter is the first recipient of the
scholarship, which helps celebrate Dr. Simco's 48 years at the U of M. The public forums
for the search for the next U of M president wrapped up this week with Sharon Gaber, the
Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Arkansas, who is the
fourth and final candidate for the position. Finding a new place to live was the focus
for many students at the off-campus housing fair on Wednesday, which was sponsored by
Adult and Commuter Student Services. Students were given the opportunity to meet with representatives
from school districts all over the mid south at the Education Career Fair. Sponsored by
the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences and Career Services, students got
to network and see what the job market holds for them. And executives from International
Paper were on campus Friday to discuss "Creating an Ethical Culture" for faculty and students
of the Fogelman College of Business and Economics as part of the "Know Good, Do Good, Thrive"
component of the Complete Professional Program. For the U of M minute, I am Ben Evans, senior,
film and video major.
