I’m David Burge, executive director in the office of undergraduate admissions at Arizona State University.
We’re at the ASU West Campus for new student orientation. Let’s go meet some freshman.
My family, we’re all Sun Devils. So I just think it’s the right decision.
>And when you have kids, will they be Sun Devils? >I hope!
>What about their children? >Yeah, definitely!
>When do we break the cycle of Sun Devil? Ever? >Never!
>The ladies like the hair? >Oh yeah, sure.
>Believe me, I learned that at 18.
>What are some things you expect from a good roommate? >Uh…
From my roommate? Just to keep his things clean.
Someone who doesn’t take your clothes and get stains on them.
Cleanliness. Friendliness.
I hope I get someone that’s really fun. Someone who will be up there dancing to music if they want to.
I need someone who is really clean… keeps their space tidy.
I tell you, what is it with this generation and cleanliness? Every single person has said clean.
I’m really OCD and I can’t deal with that.
>Are you clean? >Yes. >Oh, wow.
We have a self-diagnosed OCD clean freak who wants to live with YOU!
>What type of music should your roommate dance to? >Everything. I dance to anything, from 80’s…
>Do the 80’s dance… the Molly Ringwald. >Or I can do the Beach Boys.
What are three things that you would want to have done as a freshman at ASU?
I definitely want to do the football games and stuff like that.
>Play or watch? >Watch. >That’s good.
Get involved in many programs, keep my GPA up…
>You’ll need to put on, like, 200 lbs. in order to play. >I feel like I could do that though.
>It’s not the freshman 15 anymore. It’s the freshman 200.
I want to meet new people and I want to excel in all my classes. I’m kind for nervous for the transition between high school to college classes.
Totally acceptable. Let me give you a high five for excel though. Awesome.
>What else makes it attractive here at West? >There’s attractive people.
True story.
