Although this is a holiday for most, Mana Party leader
Hone Harawira is still here to discuss current affairs.
A march is expected to depart the Taitokerau region -
what is it about and why should we support it?
There are many causes, but the main reason is to object
to the sale of NZ assets to foreign investors.
We need to protect our jobs and stay committed to our cause,
our assets and be true to NZ identity.
How many people are expected to join the march?
We've contact iwi across the country.
The Auckland Port workers, the meat-work employees,
Kohanga reo members and others will be participating in the march.
It's expected to be bigger than the Foreshore and Seabed march.
That's a massive crowd.
Yes it'll be a great march.
Sue Maroney is advocating for a bill to allow
six months leave for parents of new-borns.
Does Mana support this bill?
Mana agrees that a parent should have to opportunity
to look after their child, but in these times with pay
as low as it is, parents are taking on one,
two or even three jobs. If incomes increase,
then I think this will allow one parent to stay home.
Let's talk about Afghanistan
where Corporal Douglas Hughes lost his life.
Do you think NZ soldiers have a place there?
Our soldiers should return home.
The main reason behind that war is that the people want to maintain
their autonomy and they don't want foreigners implementing law on them.
They should be returned home to address issues
relevant to this country.
On to a lighter note,
your mother will be celebrating her 80th birthday -
what plans have your family made?
This Saturday,
we've organised a celebration in her home town of Whakapara.
You're welcome to attend.
Why thank you!
Her people of Ngati Hau will be organising a feast in her honour
and we'll all be there.
The Minister of Justice wants to attend so I've given an invitation.
Everyone's invited to come to talk, sing and celebrate with us.
You must be extremely proud of all the work she's done over the years.
I'm not one to brag about my own mother's achievements,
but she's always been there for me from the start,
and so she is for her grandchildren.
Hone Harawira, thank you for your time today.
Despite the holiday, you still made time to speak with us.
