Welcome to the Living Learning Community program at Trent University.
The Living Learning program at Trent is made up of five different LLCs or Living Learning
Communities. In each of the LLCs are 10 to 15 members who
apply and are accepted to the program. Also within each of the LLCs is an LLC Advisor
who is an upper year student we have hired to engage the members and facilitate programming
over the course of the year. If you go to our website you can see that there is extensive
information on what Living Learning communities are, how to apply, and detailed information
about each specific Living Learning Community. The five we have at Trent are Active Living,
which is located in Champlain College. Active Living targets students who share a love for
adventure and exploring, getting outside and being active. Each of the LLC sections on
our website has a video that you can check out and the videos were made this year by
the LLC members who went through the program over the course of the 2012-2013 school year.
The Global Living Community is also located at Champlain College and this community engages
students who are really interested in global citizenship, diversity and really strive to
gain a better understanding of the world and challenging their own perspectives.
Environmental Sustainability is located at Gzowski College and these are students who
share a strong passion for thinking globally and acting locally. Gzowski College is very
passionate about environmental sustainability and the students have created some initiatives
there over the course of last year. Expressions is located at Otonabee College
and these students share a passion for visual and performing arts. They have worked really
hard to start a Youtube channel just for expressions this year and that will past onto the folks
who are part of it this year. Leadership and Civic Engagement is located
at Lady Eaton College and it is for students who share a passion for leadership and who
are interested in positively contributing to their community as well as looking at their
role in Canadian society. Applying to the program you need to go to
you MyTrent and were going to go go there. The details are below but were going to
to my own MyTrent. It will look at little bit different then yours because I'm a professional
and I'm not a student here. But if you log into your MyTrent and you go to the 'Resources'
tab on the far right of the toolbar and click it. Yours will again look a little bit different
but you will have a Housing Services section underneath in your MyTrent and if you go to
that and look for the 'Living Learning Community Member Application.' Click on it and up will
come the LLC Member Application. There are a number of boxes that you will need to fill
out. It's really important that you put in all of your personal information and you rank
your first and second choice. The questions are just allowing us to get to know you a
little bit better as we review the applications as they come in. Once you've finish filling
them out you can either save the draft in case you want to come back to it later, reset
which means it wipes out whatever you've written and you can start fresh or you can submit.
And when you submit, I will get an email letting me know that you have submitted and you will get an email
letting you know that your application has been sent.
So that is the Living Learning Community program at Trent in a nutshell. If you have any questions
or concerns please don't hesitate to contact me. My information is at the bottom of our
website and you can feel free to email or give me a phone call and I'll get back to
you as soon as I can.
