Hi my name is Kathy Danberry. Today we're going to talk about revising an assignment
page in a Moodle classroom.
Moodle is a learning platform designed to provide educators, administrators and learners
with a single robust, secure and integrated system to create personalized learning environments.
Moodle is designed to support both teaching and learning. With over ten years of development
guided by social constructivist pedagogy, Moodle delivers a powerful set of learner
centric tools and collaborative learning environments that empower both teaching and learning.
Moodle is easy to use. A simple interface, drag-and-drop features along with ongoing
usability improvement make Moodle easy to learn and use.
Moodle is free with no licensing fees. Moodle is provided freely as Open Source software.
Anyone can adapt, extend, or modify Moodle for both commercial and non-commercial projects
without any licensing fees and benefit from the cost efficiencies, flexibility and other
advantages of using Moodle.
Now we're going to edit a Moodle assignment page. This is a page from Word processing
one Spring 2014. This is a class that I teach at Huntington Junior College. Right here you
see the assignment page, here is the title of the class, and there are several documents
here, here's the syllabus, proctor requirement forms that the students must read before they
start the class. There are a couple of things we need to change on this page. The first
thing is- we have a Winter 2014 Word I syllabus on here. We need to take this off and replace
it with the Spring Word I syllabus. So, to show you how easy it is to manipulate Moodle,
we click, one click on turn editing on, and then we come up to the editing page, and right
here beside the winter 2014 word I syllabus, there are several icons. We are going to use
this one... which is delete. We're going to delete this file from this page, and then
you have a box up here that says "are you sure you want to delete it"? and we're going
to say ok. And now it's gone. So we need to replace that file with the spring 2014 Word
I syllabus. I already have that file prepared in a Word document, so we're just going to
add it to this page. So we click on add an activity or resource, and the add an activity
or resource box comes up. That is a Word document which is a file, so we click here on file
and you can see here that there is lots of information that Moodle provides for the user.
And we need to add this file and we get to add file - page and right here we have two
red asterisks - and as we all know you always have to put something in the box where there
is a red asterisk, so we need to name this file and it is the Word I syllabus and we're
going to name it Word I syllabus, Spring 2014, And right here we need to tell it that it's
a syllabus. Then we need to scroll down just a little bit, and we need to select the file
that we want to add. Then we click on add. And the file we need to add is on my desktop
so, we choose the file and then we find our desktop, and it's right here. spring Word
I syllabus. Click on that then we upload the file. Then we can see that it's added right
there. And then we need to scroll down just a little bit, save and return to course. And
there it is, right there. And I want to move it up, to the top here so we use this icon
here and it says move and we move it, and you can see the ease of the drag-and-drop
with Moodle.
Now we need to make one more change, and you can see it right here. It says welcome to
the winter quarter, and we want this to say spring, since the class starts March
So we need to scroll down, and right here is the icon we need to click on here. We need
to edit the summary, and right here we just select winter, delete it, and then type in
spring. Then save changes. We made the change there. Now let's turn the editing off, and
see if our changes are still in there. Right here is my syllabus, click on it once, and
it will download. Come up and there is my syllabus, already prepared and ready to go.
And then we can see the spring 2014 quarter, and that is how you revise a page, an assignment
page in a Moodle classroom.
