Oh boy! You and your classmates are in desperate need of becoming professional scuba divers
in order to explore the ocean life! No worries, I have you covered. Prepare yourself because you will be diving into the unforeseen waters of the ocean.
Imagine the different types of animals you will bump into while you are there. What would the ocean be like if there were no animals?
Now, let us start swimming because we all need to become scuba certified in order to find out....
The goal is to present the presentations to the class and teach them about the animal they were assigned.
Students will be split into assigned groups of five.
Each group will be assigned a specific animal from the ocean. Google Presentations will be made by each group.
Each group will be assigned a specific animal from different levels of the ocean floor.
Group 1- Tuna Fish (Sunlight Zone)
Group 2- Shrimp (Twilight Zone)
Group 3- Giant Squid (Midnight Zone)
In order to create a Google Presentation, you need to open a Google account if you do not have one already.
I have provided links on my WebQuest if you need to refer to them.
Once everyone has created a google account, one person in the group needs to open a Google
Presentation and share it with all of the group members as well as the teacher.
Once that is done, group members are free to start collaborating and researching.
Remember, presentations are to be fun and creative!
This is the big day where every group member gets to present their Google Presentations to the
class and teach other students what they have learned.
Congratulations, you have made it to Scuba Certification Day! By now, you have learned all about the specific animal I have
assigned to your group, as well as the other animals presented in class.
You have definitely dived deep in the ocean and explored the sea life all around you.
This lesson is important because it is a fun and creative way to get students involved
and excited about the ocean life. Students need to become observant of life around them,
and this is the perfect lesson plan for them to do that.
Students have learned how to research, create presentations, use Google Docs, present information
to the class and to work collaboratively as groups. Everything students have learned to
do for their presentations will be used in other subject areas later in their school
career. They now have a head start, because they already know how to use these tools!
There should always be a goal set at the beginning of the lesson, so students understand what
they are working towards. Teachers are always able to use WebQuests
as part of their lesson plans. These WebQuests are usually made ahead of time and allow teachers
to allocate their time wisely.
