"It's the same night. It's the same..."
'This is the story of an actor who was an all rounder in the real sense.'
'Kishore Kumar.'
'His parents had named him Aabhas Kumar Ganguly.'
'When he entered films, he became Kishore Kumar.'
'And we lovingly call him Kishore Da.'
"Mesmeric eyes. Look, the weather is pleasant."
"You cast your eyes low after becharming me with them."
He was born on 4th August 1929.
Kishore Da hailed from Khandwa region in Madhya Pradesh.
His father Kunjalal Ganguly was a lawyer.
And his mother Gauri Devi hailed from a well to do Bengali family.
Kishore Kumar was the youngest amongst the four siblings.
His elder brothers were Ashok Kumar and Anoop Kumar.
And sister was Sati Devi.
It is a well known fact that Kishore Kumar's voice..
..was very bad when he was a child.
Then Kishore Kumar's finger got severed and his father..
..took him a doctor.
The doctor applied a medicine because of which..
..little Kumar started crying loudly.
This crying continues for quite a few days.
And this crying cleared Kishore Da's throat.
And his voice became melodious.
Ashok Kumar had told this in an interview.
"I need. I need. Very badly."
"I need. I need a wife who takes care of her husband."
"I need. I need a wife who takes care of her husband."
"I need. I need."
When Kishore Kumar was really small, his elder brother Ashok Kumar..
..had made a name in the film industry.
And later his other brother Anoop Kumar also joined films.
Although Kishore Kumar didn't want to act.
But his elder brother insisted that he must act.
Kishore Kumar considered the famous singer of that era..
..Kundan Sehgal his guru. And he used to sing in his style.
And when elder brother Ashok Kumar got a house in Mumbai..
..little Kishore also came to Mumbai.
And changed his name to Kishore Kumar for Aabhas Kumar.
And started as a chorus singer.
"Moonlit night. You are with me. I can't help it. I have lost control."
"Moonlit night. You are with me. I can't help it. I have lost control."
Ashok Kumar made Kishore Kumar act in 'Shikari' in 1946.
But Ashok Kumar would always be really worried..
..be Kishore Kumar was never really serious about a film career.
And least for acting.
Often he would forget his lines during scenes.
Or would deliberately mess up.
In one such scene, Kishore Kumar and Ashok Kumar were face to face..
..and Kishore Kumar placed both his feet on his younger brother's feet.
And said, "Don't move. Just act."
And that scene was completed.
This film was 'Bhai Bhai'.
So you are hell bent of troubling me like this.
Why did I bring you here?
At least say that I can sing well.
I fulfilled my duty. Now I am ready to accept any reward you give me.
Reward? - Yes, reward.
I can give you a reward you'll remember all your life.
Really? - Actually, you have ruined my peace and happiness.
Peace. Someone who doesn't want inner peace..
..can never be at peace.
Peace comes to the one who are honest. And not liars.
Keep quiet. You can't argue with me all the time. Got it?
Sir, I am goon. And gentlmen like you can't shut a goon up.
Remember this? If you don't give your wife her right..
..within a week, then I'll drag you to court.
First of all, music director Khemchand Prakash..
..gave Kishore Kumar a break in fim 'Ziddi' as a playback singer.
Song was 'Marne Ki Duwayein Kyun Mangoon.'
"Why should I wish to die?"
And by 1949, Kishore Kumar made up his mind..
..that he'll settle down in Mumbai.
As the story goes. Kishore Kumar abused Dev Anand very badly.
The matter was that a actor was needed for a scene.
When there was other actor there..
..his elder brother told him that he to say just one line.
Dev Anand will come from the front and you have to give him an earful.
Dev Anand's scene began and as soon as he came before Kishore Kumar..
..he actually abused him and then ran away.
Although people kept shouting, "Stop Kishore. The scene is incomplete."
But Kishore Da never returned.
It's also true that when Kishore Da started singing for Dev Anand..
..his reputation as a playback singer became really strong.
"Agreed that you didn't call me. Do you hate my company?"
"You are off all decked up. You are something else."
Although Kishore Da wanted to make a career in singing.
But he was confused for a long time whether..
..he should be an actor or a singer.
So once Mohammad Rafi sang for Kishore Kumar in a movie.
But music director S.D. Burman brought out the talent..
..in Kishore Kumar.
Kishore Kumar considered S.D. Burman his guru.
S.D. Burman brought out the best in him.
He also gave him new songs.
As in movies like 'Munimji', 'Taxi Driver', 'Nau do Gyarah'..
..'Paying Guest'.
By the end of the 1960, Kishore Kumar had made..
..up his mind that he'll work as a playback singer only.
And then came a film which not only enriched..
..Kishore Kumar's career but gave India its first superstar.
Rajesh Khanna. And this movie was Aradhana.
And then Kishore Kumar became Rajesh Khanna's voice.
Be it any film. 'Daag', 'Do Raaste', 'Apna Desh'..
..'Aapki Kasam' or 'Mere Jeevan Saathi'.
"I am here with a song of the heart."
"I am here with a song of the heart."
"Friend, please don't reject my gift."
"I am here with a song of the heart."
Kishore Kumar was an artist who was not only a singer..
..or not only an actor. He was a music as well as film director.
He even produced films.
He made 'Jhumroo' in 1961.
And he made Door 'Gagan Ki Chaon Mein' in 1964.
It is believed that Kishore Da loved the word Door(away).
And the reason being that he was far away from his native place Khandwa.
Kishore Kumar did great comedy in movies.
His acting in Half Ticket has you in splits.
Come on.
"It has pierced right through my heart. My beloved."
"It has pierced right through my heart. My beloved."
"Your mesmeric look."
There came a time when Kishore Da said the world calls me crazy.
And I say the world is crazy.
There is story behind this line as well.
What happened is a journalist was interviewing Kishore Da.
And during the interview started asking some personal questions.
She said, "Kishore Kumar, you don't attend parties. You don't have friends."
"Don't you feel lonely."
To this Kishore Da said, "I talk to these trees all around my bungalow."
"And I have even named them."
And so the journalist wrote that Kishore Kumar is a mad man.
And that's why he said that the world calls him crazy.
But he feels that the world is crazy.
Who would've let me travel in the train if I had not acted like a mad man?
Would've you have helped if I had told the truth?
No. No one cares about honest people. Tell me.
R.D Burman and Kishore Kumar made a great pair.
They worked together in lots of films.
And then Bappi Da and Kishore Kumar got along so well..
..that Kishore Kumar sang in almost all of Bappi Da's movies.
There came a time when Kishore Kumar..
..left all the great singers far behind.
"From the river to the sea. From the sea to ocean."
"But addiction is deeper than ocean."
"But addiction is deeper than ocean."
"I forgot everything. I don't remember anything now."
"I haven't forgotten this one thing."
"Julie."
Be it Mr. Dev's voice or Rajesh Khanna's.
Or of angry young man Amitabh Bachchan's.
Kishore Kumar suited every actor.
And Kishore Kumar reached the pinnacle of success.
When he was asked, "Kishore Kumar, you were magic."
He replied, "It's all about the time."
"This is the same film industry which never considered me a singer."
"And see, they consider an untrained singer like me a great singer."
"You are my peace of mind."
"You are my peace of mind."
"Pray that I can feel at peace."
Kishore Kumar will be immortal in the history of Indian Cinema.
