On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Husain Abdul Alim and I am here to tell you all about wood carving. This is for the beginners, the most challenging part about getting into a flung, of course I don't need to draw lines cause you just go ahead right at it. There is where I go right at it, I got that much confidence and experience but when you don't have the experience, I got the nice eyes here and a set nose just to get you some parallels to go from. And it is so important to establish those lines if you are going to go somewhere with your piece. What I mean by defining the lines; I mean go ahead, go ahead down and again I am upside down. Flathead on top, grove down the bottom and I am just going around the lines establishing the line. Establishing the line. Sometime you got natural lines already in the wood, but most of the times you don't and then I can go back to the line once I have established a line. This is a nice piece of Maple. You can tell by the bark and tell by the wood and the grain itself. I love Maple. It gives such a nice stain, the Maple does. Okay that is up around the eye, I haven't gone underneath the eye, that is the side of the nose and over the top of the eyeball. Then you want to go on the other side, do the same thing establishing the lines. This is going to make the pieces jump out, pop out. Definition; this is what I mean by making it bigger than you need it, I can always go back later and make it smaller. Defining the lines underneath the nose, underneath the nose defining the lines.
