INSIDE – 30 years of the Palais des Festivals and Conference Centre
PREVIOUS EPISODES
As we watched through the old cassettes, the Palais des Festivals told us the story of a world and of times so different from those in which we are living,
that is was hard to imagine that it was not only the past, but also a future that is entirely possible…
and the archives officer had picked up a mysterious signal that intrigued him… and at that point, things took a very different turn…
EPISODE 5 – TRAPPED
It’s just a few days before the sixtieth Cannes Film Festival – it opens on Wednesday and the town is in the throes of final preparations…
it should be pointed out that these ten days are really a sort of climax in the town’s activity.
The Festival is a gigantic advertising campaign. This report is by Elodie Sibylle and Frédéric Mignard
The only thing still missing in front of the Palais des Festivals is the famous red carpet.
In a few days’ time, the Croisette will welcome 120 000 visitors and the whole town is one vast worksite.
In Cannes, the ten-day long Festival generates 3 500 jobs and 120 million Euros turnover.
In recent years, Cannes has even become specialised in the organisation of top-level professional trade fairs in the fields of advertising and real estate.
We operate 300 days every year ; we host roughly 60 events that allow us to welcome 300 000 conference participants all through the year
and it’s quite true that business tourism in Cannes represents a large financial windfall.
Altogether, nearly 16 000 jobs last year and 800 million Euros added to the economy – that’s almost incredible for a town of barely 70 000 inhabitants.
Cannes’ strong point is that it is a « world village » and obviously,
conference and festival participants are looking for the same thing as our residents : a high quality of life.

« Pulp Fiction », the film we were talking about earlier with Quentin Tarantino, who appeared with us ; this is the man who made « Reservoir Dogs »
