Hello today we are looking for plums.
They may be plums here.
These look like plums.
So we are doing a little better than last year.
Now here is the pear tree.
As you know the pear tree had something on its leaf.
Its called Pear Blister Mite.
There is a ladybird.
She is a native ladybird, not a harlequin.
So what we look for are swollen ends.
Like this. That may indicate a pear.
the Mint is doing well.
This is the apple blossom.
Apparently.
It is supposed to smell of apples.
We hope that this will pollinate with other apple trees on the allotments.
This is a tree onion.
This grows onions on it and then they go
back into the ground.
We will see more as the season progresses.
Last year the Rhubarb was eaten alive.
This year its happening again.
So we will do some study into what it is.
You must remove the flowers from the Rhubarb.
If you find a flower take it off.
They usually flower if they are under stress.
Just pull the flower off.
If you don't pull it off.
All the nutrients go to the flower instead of the rhubarb.
If you don't plan to eat the rhubarb.
You can leave the flower on the plant.
These are our willow whips.
Some are doing really well.
These may need transplanting.
Here are the peas.
Here are the parsnips.
These are delicious.
They have like a nutty flavour.
Roasted parsnips with honey are delicious.
Very expensive in the shops so if you can grow them.
Strawberries are starting to flower.
These as alpine strawberries.
They flourish with strawberries and never stop.
They taste very different to the main strawberry.
If you follow my camera you will see that the
other strawberries are in trouble.
They are dying.
I don't know why they are dying.
It could just be old leaves.
Hopefully they have enough water.
One problem with using tubs is watering.
The top compost is very moist.
But it might be dry further done the bag.
and its difficult to check.
Right this is moist right through the bag.
They are starting to flower.
So that is good news.
This is lavender and phlox.
This is comfrey.
These are our raspberry bushes.
They have gone a little wild.
Now how I know to tame my raspberries.
One good thing is they are starting to flower.
The fruit will follow the flowers. These are summer raspberries.
Over here we have the autumn raspberries.
This raised bed is going to be dismantled.
Here is a small borage.
This is probably an alium.
This dogs tooth violet has to come out.
Its very nice in the woods but not in the
allotment.
The parsley has not done well at all.
The spiky looking plants are garlic.
Some mints have grown here.
Willow herb is a weed and you must weed
it out before it sets seed.
This green plant here.
I just let it run wild down the side.
Its very expensive to buy.
I have some dead looking plants that
need my attention.
This is another parsley.
I will ask people on the allotment if they would
like some parsley.
The small green plant is fever few.
Here are, our potatoes
You have to earth up potatoes.
which basically means to cover the plant in soil.
You will develop trenches on either side.
This is our red cabbage.
Making friends on the allotment allows
you to share produce and growing of plants.
That is rosemary.
These are perpetual strawberries.
that is a fever few
this is oregano.
These cuttings are buddlea
This was honeysuckle.
This is black peppermint the best one for tea.
This is pineapple mint.
The silvery trails are slug trails.
This is why we use slug pellets.
These are onions.
These are potatoes growing in a bag.
Yes you can grow them in bags.
If you smear the outside of the bag with
petroleum jelly, you might deter slugs.
This is a polyanthus.
These are potatoes
they will not come up yet as they are not earlies
Rhubarb
Now you are seeing the allotment, which is a tad untidy.
these are shallots.
These are winter lettuce.
My wooly thyme is dying.
I have two options.
Bury it deeper, or move it out of there.
It was beautiful.
I now know what that is over there.
It is achimila mollis.
the Alpines.
The geranium is looking okay
The platts black is not happy.
