One thing to keep in mind about your antique guitar, is that often antique guitars have
antique strings. Now, an antique guitar might have a great sound, but with the wrong strings
it's always going to sound dull, maybe even out of tune. So what you've got to do to check
the strings on a guitar, is look very closely and see if there's buildup on the strings--the
showing, if your guitar is showing the signs of wear and tear. So I'm going to show you
close here to look at these strings closely. And you can see that there's buildup coming
up--coming back here. And that these strings up here are kind of black. Now let me show
you what a new string sounds like, compared to those blackish strings. It's very shiny,
it's very silvery, it's brand new, and it shouldn't have buildup or rust, or the signs
of wear from time. So, we can obviously tell that not only is this guitar missing some
strings, but in fact the strings are good for nothing anymore.
