Hi guys! I'm Ciro Manna and today I'm going to give you some advices for your playing.
I'd like to discuss with you the Am6 chord
in particular I'm going to talk with you about adding the 6th to the Am chord
but also we're going to talk about adding the 9th, that makes another great musical shade.
Usually I start from the pentatonic scale, that it's the easiest to memorize
and then I try to add the 6th and the 9th to the pentatonic scale.
It's easier to add new notes to a scale that we already know so well.
Let me give you an example.
In this short example, I added to the pentatonic scale...
played on the Am (5th fret) box
I added the F# note
F# it's the 6th of the Am6 chord
I'll show you slowly...
Robben Ford uses this trick to modify pentatonic scales when he's playing blues or fusion...
To practice you can try to add the 6th in other boxes on the whole neck extension
Again, try to play this exercise on the whole neck
With practice on the whole neck you'll be able to master the add of this new note.
That's all guys. Try to do some practice with this trick maybe with some backing track
and the share your licks and your phrases on MusicOff's dedicated Forum. Have fun!
