vermont
past of position assisted suicide bill
we brought this all the other week
at that time it had not cleared its final hurdle yet it has now cleared its
final hurdle so to give you the specifics again
uh... patient must state their requested three times get to medical opinions be
offered a psychiatric examination
and we'd seventeen days to fill the prescription if they want to go out the
physician assisted suicide
so there is
tremendous uh... number of hurdles to get over
i'm often mention this yet but it also needs to be death at six months or less
to live
the bill known as the death with dignity bill
and vermont is the fourth st
to allow doctors to prescribe a lethal doses
this is after a court order in montana said that this has to be the case and
balanchine is in both washington oregon
this i think is but honestly
just is bigger win as you were getting in terms of the gay marriage
uh... debate now and on that front
because workmen
to me i i i did send this the other week but i'll say again
is the ultimate test of sympathy
for somebody to be able say
okay it is my loved ones wish pass away now because there's so much pain right
and they're miserable
it is their wage
i will now be selfless enough to put my selfish needs to want to keep that
person here aside and let them fulfil their own wishes and make their own
decision
the fact that people in twenty thirteen
not only disagree with that
in only four states it's legal to do that and by the way i think there's too
many restrictions on it in those four states
i mean next crazy man
so you're telling me
we treat our animals better than we treat our humans
i don't get me wrong i understand it dog doesn't literally tell you yes i'd like
to die now
but the principle behind what you do there is
the doctor tells us the dog isn't horrendous pain and is gonna you have to
go put it down right
well for human beings we have well ridiculous extra layer certainty which
we need there where they say
i'm going to die now please
and would you say to you
all help arrogant are you
as i've told you guys before i'm actually of two minds on this debate in
the sense that
uh... i'm not sure whether i'm in favor of
lol is in all fifty states like we're dealing with here where there's very
strict regulations associated with the assisted suicide
uh... or if i'm in favor of just flat out euthanasia
where anybody can say yes i'd like to have a
legally kill myself now
i think i lean towards is being in favor of euthanasia right
and the reason why is because
look at the counter argument i've had this discussion with friends of mine
before now much i had said miss characterized organ or create a straw
man here
but the perception i got was their point is
well if we create a society were anybody's allowed to divert to kill
themselves at any point i'm then obviously a lot of people kill
themselves and might even be a majority
forty eight
i see no
uh... reason to believe that
and even if you say well the numbers of people being depressed or hike
that doesn't necessarily mean you put a gun to your head and kill yourself
now em i not even thinking that
there wouldn't be more people that legally decided to euthanize themselves
i think that probably what happened
i think that there are might be an increase of people who want to do that
and my responses
that's kinda par for the course when you allow people take control of their own
lives
to me uh...
and i hate i'd struggle with this all the time like i said i'll sleep between
uh... strict regulations on it for just having euthanasia
to me it's almost a matter of principle
where
to have an entire society say new an individual
for a decision that
physically only effects them in my emotionally affect other people but
physically is their own bodies their own person
their most prized possession
to have the entire society c_n_n_ or her
you can do is to simply because i say so
there's something that's it's so wrong about that because it's such a hollow
reasoning
you don't know what's going on inside that i said you know what's going on
inside that guy's body
uh... this is a a good day for freedom
uh... in terms of artist and again and from the role so in terms of
uh... euthanasia
because
i'd like to get to a point where yes element on a national level on the
federal level we have a law
similar to this
because uh...
i can only imagine west point i can only imagine
a billion scenarios and i'm not happy don't get me wrong i actually don't like
i'm i'd want my likable but i do and i almost feel guilty about
happy i am sometimes
but it's like
i can only imagine a billion scenarios where i'd would wanna kill myself
where all looked you god into uh... horrendous car accident in
seventy six percent of all you have to be amputated and you're no longer like
to speak and your me all the best uh... respirator or you have locked incident
ever lock down syndrome
where all my guy do you uh...
you are fully conscious but you can
or talker speaker anything right
like i want people and all i want to write it out now that if that ever
happened to me i want to go i'm one of the whole
so i think it's a matter of simple human sympathy
