The GROUND Master 400 is the world's first mobile long-range air
defence radar to be packaged in a single container.
This compact design makes it particularly easy to deploy at short notice.
It can be transported by road, on a single truck or by air in a single
tactical transport plane like the C-130.
When it arrives at its destination, a team of just six people can set it up
in under an hour. The performance of this new product has significantly raised
the bar in the air defence radar market. It uses the latest technologies in the most
sophisticated radar concept to detect targets flying at both very high and
very low altitudes. This capability increases the volume of airspace covered
without having to increase the number of radars deployed.
The GM 400 delivers optimum performance even in complex environments,
adjusting its modes of operation to match the type of terrain and other conditions.
It can detect and track every type of target from high manoeuvring aircrafts on tactical
missions to UAVs and cruise missiles.
All the data about the covered air space
is updated
with every rotation of the antenna - in other words,
every six seconds -
so operators see new targets faster
and can track moving targets more accurately once they have been detected.
The GM 400
provides a common air picture of exceptional quality
and has all the features to cope with new threats as they emerge.
The product was launched in 2008
and the GM 400 has so far been selected by Canada, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany
Slovenia,
and Malaysia.
The GROUNDMaster product line also
includes the GM 200,
a smaller
tactical version of the GM 400
for medium range
air surveillance
and weapon system coordination roles. All the GROUNDMaster radars are manufactured in Limours,
just south of Paris,
by ThalesRaytheonSystems.
