Hi, Joseph.
Hi, Jean-Claude.
Tell me, when should I use a lead-substitute type additive in my petrol.
In the past, there were petrols like leaded Super but today unfortunately all petrols are unleaded so at Motul we use an additive
which we recommend, Valve Expert, which replaces the lead and lubricates valve seats.
What are the risks of driving today with unleaded petrol without an additive?
The risk today concerns engines that have not necessarily been reconditioned or restored.
Here, valve seats have been machined directly in the cylinder head and there's a risk of wear of the seats and of the engine breaking.
Drying up therefore...
The risk is quite simply of destroying the seat and, once the seat is destroyed, the engine is not sealed and therefore does not work correctly.
It's also important, after a long winter period when the car has been stationary and the engine hasn't run for several months, to clean the carburettor, where necessary with the Carbu Clean product.
It's a product that removes any petrol deposits that can build up in the carburettor after a long stationary winter period.
Gets rid of all impurities?
That's right.
