When the earthquake hit, we had three groups of guests inside the hotel.
We did what we had to get them out and to safety.
Then we took the hotel workers to safety and I went to pick up my son at preschool.
As we were arriving at the shelter we coud see the wave of the tsunami rolling in.
Yes.
But there was a moment when I didn't know where my husband was.
That was a terrible moment for me.
About 40 minutes.
We were scattered.
The telephones weren't working so I wasn't sure where he was
but we ended up going to the same shelter.
It took 2 months for us to be able to get to work.
It was winter and very cold plus it wasn't until the end of April that power and water were restored.
So the workers couldn't clean up the inside.
And I couldn't let them work in the cold.
It was always in the back of my mind.
I have a three year old and so I was worried about it but there is little you can do.
I checked our food for contamination.
I'm so thankful for all the volunteer's help because not all the hotel workers came back.
This hotel is our family's so it's up to us to fix it.
After the first volunteers arrived, I cried at night with my husband.
