Hi, I'm Stan DeFreitas, Mr. Green Thumb. Bedding plant, such as Portulaca is a grand plant
for a hot area. Portulaca, only gets to be about four to six inches high, so it's a small
little plant, and you probably plant them in mass, about nine inches apart. Portulaca
will take almost any backyard soil and do well, but most of the nurseries grow them
in a good peat perlite combination. Why? They want good drainage, but they also want a wholesome
moisture around them. They'll take the hot Summer, June, July, August, you'll see these
used in some of the amusement parks sometimes as a bedding plant, or as a plant that uses
like a transition from one area to another. Portulaca is a tough, rough plant, sometimes
called the Amos Rose. This one is a Sundial Mix, but you'll see that it also of course,
full sun, hot sun, do give it some water on occasion, and make sure you give it a good
water soluble plant food about every two weeks at about half strength. Portulaca is a grand
plant for the warm areas. For On Gardening, I'm Stan DeFreitas, Mr. Green Thumb.
