Getting a library ebook on your Windows
8 device. To complete this you will need
a connection to the Internet, the OverDrive Media Console
app installed and registered your windows
8 device and your library card. If you do not yet have the Windows Media Console
app installed
please see our earlier video.
Let's begin by connecting to the internet. From the right-hand
edge of your screen, flick your finger to the left.
This will bring up a menu. On this menu
select "Settings." Touch
on the word "Available" to see a list available wireless networks.
Touch the name of the wireless network you would like to join.
Now that we're connected to the Internet, let's find the
OverDrive Media Console app to get started.
Touch or click on that app to open it.
Here's the OverDrive Media Console app. To get started
touch "Find a library." You can either browse or search for your library.
To start a search, take your finger to the outside
right hand edge of the screen and flick it inwards to the left.
This will bring up a menu. On this menu
touch or click on the magnifying glass icon.
Touch the search box and type in
either the name of your library, the name of your community
or your zip code number. After you enter this information
touch on the magnifying glass symbol to start the search.
Find the name of your library from the list of libraries
and touch or click on the name.
Now touch or click on the words "Ohio Digital Library."
You are now on the Ohio Digital Library's website.
You can search for a title by clicking on the search
on the right hand side and entering in the author's name or the name
your item. Or you can browse the collection
by clicking on a menu item. Today we'll click on
"All Fiction." Here we see
all fiction items. You can tell an item is available
if the icon in the upper right hand corner is dark.
For example today, the Velveteen Rabbit is available.
Let's click on the cover to continue.
To borrow an item, simply click on
"Borrow." Now select your library from
the list of libraries. Then
enter your library card number and in some cases your pin number
and click "Sign in."
You have now checked out this item. To download it to your device
click on the triangle next to the word "Download"
if it is available and click on Adobe
EPUB then click "Confirm
and download." If you do not have that option
just click "Download"
You will now see a message like this one appear at the bottom of your screen.
To open this ebook click on
"Open." Your ebook will now open
inside OverDrive Media Console
touch or click on the cover of the item to
open it.
You're now ready to enjoy this ebook. To turn the page
slide your finger from the right hand side of the page
inward. That's all! Happy reading!!
