These images were taken during the journey through the Jara Rail Trail.
The rail trails are routes than run through Spain on old rail lines.
Railways that never were inaugurated, or were suppressed and therefore converted...
...into places that can be transited by bicyclists or people on foot...
...or in some cases with motor vehicles, quads, or other vehicles that can transit on small forest roads.
In particular the Jara Rail Trail is a path that goes through the mountains of Toledo.
and in its principal part crosses the famous Tajo river.
Viaducts are needed for crossing these types of rivers or other bodies of water...
...and to pass through mountains in certain areas tunnels are used, like in normal railways.
That's why we have certain dark areas of a tunnel, even during the day...
...due to the length of these tunnels.
In particular, we know there are round 18 tunnels, the longest of which is at the 30km mark of this route...
...which is approximately 730 meters long.
Aside from that, other shorter tunnels have similar darkness due to the shape of its path.
So it is recommended for this railway to bring a lantern, especially if you are on a bike...
...since, of course, the tunnels can be crossed without a lot of visibility, but it isn't recommended for safety reasons.
As we said, this route has many viaducts, there are exactly 7 that cross it...
...that allow us to pass different bodies of water.
The largest and most showy is called Puente Amador (Lover Bridge) that is also known as Azután Viaducto.
The one which we are seeing now in the images.
That crosses the reservoir that has the same name, the Azután Reservoir.
It is one of the longest, that has a length of 340 meters and a height of 40 meters, that allows us to cross the Tajo river.
This rail trail starts normally in the Calera and Chozas rail station.
Which is the only of the 8 stations that we will see along the way that is still active...
...that is to say, the one which the Spanish commuter train arrives.
Nevertheless, the rest of the stations never were active, never were inaugurated, and are abandoned.
Making our way down this greenway we also can see the massifs of the Sierra de Gredos.
In this case, we see them with snow already, the first snow of the season.
The highest of these massifs, the highest mountain that can be seen is Almanzor.
A peak that is not only the tallest of the Sierra de Gredos, but also the tallest of the Central Spanish Range, with a height of 2592 meters.
For the rest of the video, we will let you enjoy the images of the Jara rail trail.
