My name is doctor Stephen Cheung and I am in the department of physical education and
kinesiology here at Brock University. The facilities in my labs its really thrilled
with it because itÕs a one of a kind in North America. And what weÕve decided to do is
to expand my previous work in temperature regulation by building an environmental chamber,
as I normally would have in my lab but to expand it with a altitude chamber at the same
time. This is a unique capacity in north America to be able to control simultaneously the temperature,
the humidity and the oxygen level, this will allow me to expand my research in to the effects
of high altitude and oxygen availability in as an environmental stressor. The other facility
that we have built along with that is an emerging facility. This allows us to study the effects
of water emergence on anything from survival clothing such as the off shore survival suits
worn by naval personnel, fishermen and helicopter passengers. We can study that. We can use
it to cool individuals down to look at hypothermia to look at such an aspect of re-warming from
hypothermia whether itÕs the safest, fastest way of re-warming individuals and we can control
temperature in that facility from about 5 degrees Celsius to up to 40 degrees so we
can also have a nice hot tub in here too.
