I'm Rob Wilson.
I'm a designer, illustrator, and the
owner of Silas Tom paper goods.
Silas
Tom is a company I started a few years ago.
I named it after My Grandfather Silas
Tom liked his name
and wanted to honor him with
it and its actually part
design firm, part illustration firm
and also a collection of
greeting cards that I've created
using many illustrations that I've done over the years.
My illustration style started with
printing on limitations which is
actually black and maybe
one or two other colors for
a project that i had several years
ago and I kind
of enjoy having those limitations.
Sometimes the wit or the
humor that I find in situations,
even daily situations, when
I walk my dog
appear to me. When I was walking for example.
One morning I saw a
window had blinds in
it that were bent because there
was a cat peering out of
the window watching us as we walked by.
And looking at the graphic
shape of the cat and window
shades just made complete sense to me as an illustration.
And it actually has humor
to it because I think it's
something that people can identify with and relate to.
Using the most elemental or
basic shapes to create these
kind of images where there's not
a lot of extraneous elements that get in the way.
As a designer I'm looking
for templates and tools
on a printer's website that I know how to use.
The online templates that Print Place
offers in the multiple file
formats are amazing.
They're really helpful, the customer
service has always been amazing.
I chatted with and called
Print Place's customer service department, whenever
I have a question of how something
on a template should Work, and
maybe theirs a question that
they have about the way
the files set up.
so i'm usually notified if theirs
any kind of problem that I
may have caused on the production end.
So having them looking
out for my artwork before
it goes to press is very important,
and I want to make sure sure
someone's actually looking at the artwork
and making sure that what I'm doing is going to be correct.
There are other online printing
choices, I know, but I've
always have such good experiences
with Print Place that I keep going back to them
