((Announcer)) Brian Thrift is your 2012 Toyota Texas Bass Classic Champion
[Narration] Despite the rain and mud,
This is Texas baby!
[Narration] thousands showed up to witness the best in
competitive bass fishing and to have a lot of free fun.
( (Jake Owen concert))
[woman] There's a lot of entertainment.
((scream))
The mud is a challenge but if you come with boots, it's ok.
[Narration] For six years, the Toyota Texas Bass Classic
has donated $250,000 dollars each year to support fishing programs for youth and families
bringing the grand total to an impressive...
((Announcer)) 1.5 million will be donated to the Texas Parks and Wildlife. How about
a big round of applause.
((cheering))
The relationship is terrific. Our thoughts and ideas are aligned exactly on what this
event should do and what the theme should be and I think this year set a new standard
for that.
[Narration] While the pros were out competing on the water,
event visitors were learning about what you should and shouldn't do to have a great fishery.
[Chris Moyer] This is a water hyacinth from South America usually gets these very attractive
purple flowers on it and that may be part of the problem.
[Visitor] They're learning the invasive species.
[Chris] We're looking at a Silver Barb.
(Suzanne) We're making sure we don't bring some of those home with us. Making sure that
people learn not to dump their aquariums.
((scraping))
[Man] They look like little spiders on the bottom of he water.
[Girl] A little habitat for the little fish.
[Narration] From young entrepreneurs, to future artists
and anglers, the Toyota Texas Bass Classic has something for all.
[Chris] I think the Bass Classic is an excellent place to do this. You have people that value
our state natural resources and are oriented towards outdoor activities, are receptive
to the message and I think they're going to take the information that they learn here
and tell others about it.
[Narration] For Texas Parks and Wildlife, this is Abe
Moore.
