Hello together!
Today we're going to discuss
how to include other elements in Table of Contents
into your main TOC.
Like you see here on this picture
with a List of Tables or List of Figures.
If you want to check out how to create a TOC
of those List of Figures or Tables
There are other tutorial I have already made for you
and you can watch them over here.
Otherwise let's get started with this tutorial.
Let's take a look at our document.
You see here our Table of Contents.
And into this TOC we would like to include
our List of Figures and the List of Tables, you see here.
However those lists are TOC by them self
so you see here, in TOC styles
we use TOCs to create
The TOC or the List of Tables you see here.
Therefore we can't easily include them
into the TOC, because they going to get ignored by InDesign.
However there is a quite simple work around to include them any way.
And I'm going to show you how!
Let's first move to one of those pages
here list of figures
and we going to create a new paragraph style.
Let's call this paragraph style "Hidden_TOC".
We going to move this one into the toolbox
and in here into the folder TOC.
And then we go on edit.
And we make sure that we select in here only "FONT"
as the "Based on".
We click on *OK*.
And this is our (Paragraph style) that we going to use.
Next we want to create a new layer
We call this layer 3 "TOC hidden"
And make sure this layer is active
because if we now take the text tool and create a new text box
we can type in here our headline.
So I'm just going to copy this headline here
"List of Figures"
and we going to apply the paragraph style "Hidden_TOC".
In front of the "List of Figures" we're also going to include a Roman one ("I") and a *TAB*.
Let's zoom in, have a close up. This is how it should look like.
We going to copy this one.
And move on to the second page
to our "List of Tables" and we do the same thing.
We can paste it in here.
Make this numbering a tow (II) and we call this one "List of Tables".
If we now go onto our layers, you see
that we can easily hide those elements if we want to.
So if you export your document, you should make sure to hide those elements.
You can also look them.
Let's hide them for now
and we're going to go back to our TOC
and in here you want to go on *Layout...*
*TOC Styles...*
and we going to edit our "main TOC" Style.
In here we going to look for our paragraph style
the "Hidden_TOC" one
and we going to add this.
Let's push this one to level 1
and we select the style "TOC 1".
So it will have the same style as our main headlines.
Then we also wan to make sure to *include text on hidden layers*.
Otherwise those headlines won't get included.
We click on *OK* and on *OK* again.
And if we now select the type tool and click into the text here
we can update our TOC
and you see *YAY*, our list of figures and list of tables is included with roman numbering
and also the page where we need to go to find those lists.
Alright and there we have our nice TOC, that includes
the "List of Figures" and "List of Tables" out of other TOCs.
As always thank you for watching, until next time.
Bye bye!
