2013 saw the lowest number of adult salmon return to one south coast river. That's the
conclusion of the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust's latest report on Atlantic salmon monitoring
on the river Frome in Dorset. Despite the gloomy news, the report gives fascinating
insight on the rise and fall of salmon populations on this typical lowland chalk stream during
some of the most extreme weather conditions in its 41 year history of monitoring. For

Pollution has hit Izaak Walton's Derbyshire stream. Anglers are being asked to keep a
lookout on stretches of Ashbourne's River Dove after thousands of fish were found dead
in one of its tributaries, the River Tean. The incident is being investigated by the
Environment Agency.
Here's a government wildlife body with a good deed to do. When wildfires threatened a trout
hatchery, Arizona Game & Fish joined local fire officers to rescue 600,000 young trout.
With the fire less than a quarter of a mile away and closing, they took them from a hatchery
to other waters nearby until the fire was brought under control.
There is an American professional angler with no arms and no legs. Born without those limbs,
Clay Dyer uses his neck and shoulder to play and land fish. Hailed a hero by fellow anglers,
he has landed more than 7,000 fish while competing in the Bassmaster Open Series. He uses his
partial right arm to control his reel.

And finally, this YouTube video posted by Roland Vella on 9 June shows a 10-foot blue
shark circling his boat while he was out fishing. It arrived as Mr Vella was reeling in a catch,
and it spent five minutes beneath the boat has he threw some fish pieces out at sea for
it to eat.
