The Shogun Series features a great wood --
Japanese White Oak
that drummers have long loved for its unique quality in that
it has a real dense feel to it.
You know it when you have it in your hands. It has a rigid quality,
a real sturdy feel when you play,
so that when you're playing with a big sound or desire for a big sound,
without a doubt you have a confidence and
when we play it on cymbals, it tends to have a brighter sound
not quite as bright as a nylon stick,
but from a standard hickory wood tip model,
you tend to get a brighter sound due to the density of the wood.
One of the great things that the oak
provides for us, is that it takes two models like the 5A or 5B
that are so popular and now a drummer has choices
in a number of different woods. You can have that model
in Maple, Hickory and now in the Japanese White Oak,
and there's a distinct feel
difference between each one of those woods.
You can have a stick that you're very comfortable with in terms of its dimensional qualities,
but yet provide very different feels with each one,
and different sounds as well. That's a great benefit
that drummers are truly enjoying with our re-introduction
of the Shogun Series
