Welcome to Business 117 Human Resources Management!
Let me take a moment to take you through the course as I have set it up on
Blackboard.
Now when you come into this course, it may look a little bit different. I change
background and colors each semester.
But the basic structure will be the same. For the very first week of class,
the opening page will be this Start Here page. I do that so that you could
take a moment,
make sure that you are properly set up for your
online learning environment,
download the syllabus and find out a little bit about me.
Now, after about the middle of the first week of class, the opening page will come
here, to the Weekly Activities page. The Weekly Activities page
will give you, in one place, a listing of all of the activities and
tasks that you need to complete for the week and when they are due.
So for this first week I ask you to visit the Start Here
page, make sure that your computing environment is appropriate for this
online course.
Read my syllabus, take a quiz, and again if you see a hot link there,
when you click on it, it'll take you right over to where you need to be
for the quiz. So there is the quiz.
Back to Weekly Activities. And also
to do a Discussion Board. So these will change each week.
I also like to give you a "Looking Ahead" section so that you know what's coming
up (in the course).
This course has a little more work than some courses, a little less work than
others. Our primary work is
in this Discussion Board area on a weekly basis.
So you'll be completing a response
to various discussion board questions each week and you will be graded on the
quality of your responses to the initial
question as well as the quality of your responses to your
peers.
Finally as I release your Case Study assignments -- there are two due in this
course, one in about week 9 and one towards the end of the course --
you'll see a new item appear here this menu you which will be
a place to submit
your assignments.
In the Course Documents area you'll of course find the overview documents,
chapter outlines, as well as the another way to read your assignments
advance up if you're one of those people who likes to do that.
My office hours have magically appeared
here, through the wonders of computing. And you'll see that I'm on campus
both on the San Elijo campus on Tuesday evenings and on the Oceanside campus
on (both Tuesday and) Thursday mornings to teach other classes.
But what I really want to draw your attention it is that I am available
many times outside of those two time periods.
If you give me a call or send me an email we can certainly arrange a time to talk.
I find that a five minute phone conversation can clear up hours of
confusion for a student
and I am happy to have those phone conversations just about any time we
can make it mutually agreeable,
including after normal business hours. I often speak with students between
8-10 p.m.in the evening.
I really want you to be successful. I am here for that purpose.
Please do contact me. I am happy to help you out, and to
clarify things for you. I really look forward to this semester!!
