Hi, I thought I would make a video to keep track of my journey into nursing school. Um,
I thought it would be a fun thing to look back on later and maybe it will help someone
else. It's kind of a sudden thing to go into nursing for me and I'm kinda nervous and there
hasn't been really much I could look at to kinda get an idea of what nursing school is
like. So maybe this will help someone else.
Ok so, My name is Amanda and I am 25. I graduated high school in 2006 and I went into college
for 4 years and I got a degree in biology. I wanted to be a pediatrician. Um, I didn't
have a helpful pre-med advisor and she submitted my applications really late and didn't explain
anything to me. So I didn't get into medical school.
Someone told me that if I went to either a post bachelor program or went to graduate
school it would help improve my application. So in January of the next year I went to graduate
school for biomedical sciences and I just graduated in May from that.
While I was taking classes there I didn't really, I guess, like the teaching style or
how they were teaching. I don't know. And they were going to be the same professors
that taught at the medical school there and suddenly I just didn't want to be a pediatrician
anymore. I want to be in the health care field and help people but it just ... I don't know
I just didn't like it.
I was on the internet trying to decide what else I could do. I saw a program at the community
college nearby for nursing. A few of my relatives are nurses and my niece just started, she
just finished nursing school and she really likes it. So I thought I would look into that.
I just decided to give it a try and I got in.
So I start the nursing program in January. In the fall I start the prerequisites that
I don't already have completed from my other degrees and I'm really excited. So, hopefully
I will keep making these and keep track of what happens.
