Hi everyone. This is Mike from OCLC. In this video, we will show you how to find a forgotten
custom web address for WorldShare Interlibrary Loan.
So remember one of the big things about WorldShare ILL that is different is that every institution
is going to have its own custom web address to log in to the service. You're not going
to go to FirstSearch.OCLC.org to log into WorldShare ILL. Every library, every institution
has its own custom web address.
It's every institution, not every user at an institution. Every institution has its
own custom web address. So what we recommend is once you log into WorldShare ILL, you bookmark
your custom web address. But if you forget to bookmark your custom web address or just
misplace it, forget it, we will walk you through the steps right now that you want to go through
to get that custom web address back.
So you can always go to the Getting Started page on the OCLC website to start the process
over again. You can always just Google to find this page. Google "OCLC Getting Started
WorldShare ILL". This WorldShare ILL Getting Started page will come up in your search results.
Once we're on that Getting Started page, we want to click on this step one where it says,
"Set up your new OCLC Services user account." Now even if you've already set up the account
and you remember what your new username and password is, this is still the step we want
to take to get our custom web address back if we forget our custom web address.
So once we click on that step one, that link in step one in the Getting Started page, it's
going to take us to a page that looks like this, where it says, "Introducing the OCLC
Services account". If we have the account and we just want to log into the service,
we want to click on the button on the right that says, "WorldShare Interlibrary Loan".
When we do that, it will take us through a page where we can input our library's OCLC
symbol. Now after we input the OCLC symbol, a box is going to appear below the text box
that we just typed in and we should see highlighted in blue a field that has our OCLC symbol or
a zip code and the name of our institution.
We want to click on our symbol, zip code and name in that blue section underneath the field
to populate this field on the page where we search for our symbol and then click Continue.
Once we do that, it will take us to a login page. We just want to log in with our new
username and password and then that should get us access to our WorldShare ILL home screen.
So let me demonstrate the process for you, show you what it looks like. I'm going to
switch over to my browser. So here's that Getting Started page for WorldShare Interlibrary
Loan on the OCLC website.
So here's step one and there's the link we want to click on where it says, "Set up your
new OCLC Services user account." So I'm just going to open it up in a new tab. So here's
the page where we want to click on the button over here on the right for WorldShare Interlibrary
Loan because we already have an account. We just want to get our custom web address back.
Then when I click on that page, I see this welcome screen and it asks me to type in my
symbol. So my symbol is TPU and as soon as this box in blue comes up underneath where
I type, this is where I want to click. In other words, if I click way over here on the
right, the box goes away.
My symbol is still entered in the field here but if I try clicking Continue, it's going
to give me a nasty error message. So, type in your symbol. Once you see it come up in
blue underneath, hit the enter key on your keyboard or click on it so that it populates
this field just like this and then click Continue.
It will take us to this login screen and then this is where we log in with our new services
account that we created for WorldShare ILL.
Now we do not want to bookmark this page where we log in because notice the URL, the web
address up in my address bar is this really long, complicated thing that if I try bookmarking,
it's not going to really take me back to the right place.
We want to sign in first and then bookmark. So that's what I'm going to do. I put in my
username and password. I click Sign In and then after a moment or so, I should see my
Interlibrary Loan home screen.
Now this is the web address that you want to bookmark in your browser. So do a control-D
on your keyboard or just use the star, whatever you need to do to bookmark the custom web
address, but bookmark it at this point.
If you see a box that comes up that says, "Select your branch," just click on your library's
name and click OK. That branch key just sets a cookie in your browser so the WorldShare
ILL remembers you when you come back.
