It's flying by, really fast I can't believe it, what is today, ten? Double digits!
I'm happy
it's OK, it's getting a bit better
The Giro only really started yesterday, so now the mountains come.
I'm trying to take it one day and time, trying not to look too hard at it all
there's still a long way to go, we're over the halfway mark now. People start to get tired at this stage of the race,
falling off all over the place, so the
closer you are to the front, the less chance there is of having an
accident.
I feel like I've got to be a bit wary of the time limit,
I'm trusting the more experienced guys to know about that.
I'm just getting through it - damage limitation days, these days are.
I'm happy to have a few days of hopefully
a little bit less stress, it's been pretty full-on for
the GC thus far
so hopefully
less stress so we can focus better and rest harder for the more important days
The Giro just feels like you're on the bike or in the bus, and that's it. So
it's gone by quite fast.
It's been pretty tough.
How was it today?
To be honest I'm
pretty angry at myself today,
I actually felt a hundred times better
but just got caught out like a f**king amateur on that first climb. I was at the back
I just got swamped
there was a really narrow passage and then
they just went full gas, and if you're at the back...
I nearly caught back up to the front,
by the top I was pretty close, caught
the second group, got past them,
but never
could get back
because they just went so fast through the
valley down the other side
so once we got to the bottom, all we could do was save it for another day.
I had a good go at trying to get in the breakaway early on
almost had it as well, there was a few of us jumping around
it just wasn't meant to be for us. Vladimir almost got across so I was
sort of helping out there and if we had to ride on the front I'd have been there to do it but
when you've got uphill finishes like this it all
explodes anyway.
We came in and we came to a standstill at the bottom
and I was just standing there waiting. You could see the guys lighting it up at the front, we were all just
sitting there wit our bikes, waiting.
Then when we hit the open road you just had to go so fast.
I recovered in the night and
I stayed good. My condition is very, very good
and I hope to take one stage win.
It gets pretty savage now
I just want to
put the first week behind me, that was a real nightmare of a week for me.
Learn from today
and then
do good, you know? Stop dropping the ball!
