A beautiful pregnancy, you know, a fantastic pregnancy, and um, we were rushed in at about
36 weeks. My uterus had ruptured, Jayme was dead. I was dying so they brought her back
to life but expectations weren't good they said she might not live she might not walk
she might not talk. Well, she was our baby. It didn't matter, as long as she could smile
and that. So it was really hard and growing up was hard because she um, you know she couldn't
do the things that other kids could do and she was, she was pretty coddled by her big
brother, and she's astounded everybody from doctors to teachers to swimmers to mum and
dad and she's just beaten all the odds.
She won this raffle. It was a BMX bike. We said you cannot ride it, "I can ride this bike". Yep, she rode it but she only could
ever ever ever turn left. So we had to go around the cauldersack. The same way, over
and over again. And that's how she got off training wheels. And that's when Jayme saw
Claire on the TV. Along comes Claire Mc Clain. She says "We need more female athletes".
Claire really got me into it and it was this bike that she was riding when she got her
silver so I'm hoping that I can get on it in London and maybe win a bronze or silver, or even that gold.
From Beijing I got my first ever Paralympic bronze medal. Um, in her world
record time as well. Then I went on to the road time trail and the um, the road race
which I came stone motherless last, but I had fun doing it so that was fine. Then I
traveled home, and I walked into my local shop, and um I always get chips and gravy
from chicken king at Woodcroft, and I walked in and there they had a copy of this poster,
posted across their whole shop, and I'm like wow. So that was Beijing, this I guess
describes London, or the trip to London. Um, mum and dad says the 3 week board, so I'm
not always "Mum, what did you say I had tomorrow". So she puts it on her board,
Tom emails it all over, and mum writes it down, then I kind of look. It's what I love
that ergo rides, because it's a break from the 2½ hours out on the road, which I take
my iPod so that it's good because I don't ride on the road, I'm just down from the
M7 bike path. Um, when my dad's home, he goes out with me, um, seems like
when I take my husband out, he always gets a flat tyre.
When I'm not cycling, my other passion are my pets. I've always been an animal lover.
When I'm away it's all on Ashley really to look after these guys.
How they say oh 'your heart is bursting with pride', I think if you looked around
this place there is just bits of my heart everywhere. I um, I couldn't be prouder.
She is just an amazing child, and she inspires me, every day.
Mum is just so important to our lives and if it wasn't for mum, I don't know what
Ashley and I would be doing right now. She's basically let us take over her whole house and
she doesn't ask for anything in return. The most my dad has asked for in return is to
win a medal on father's day for him, so um, yeh.
