Hi, this is Sean Hobson. When talking about the man-to-man defense, one of the most important
things to do, not only in the man-to-man defense, but in any defense for that matter, is to
talk. You have to know where the other defenders are on the floor. You have to be able to trust
your teammates to be behind you and they have to tell you that they're behind you when they're
helping you out. If you get beat, and you have to yell help, you've got to know that
somebody's coming to recover. If you're sprinting back on defense, you've got to know, "I've
got the ball. Pick up the ball, you get the second pass." You've got to be able to tell
these guys what each other are doing on the floor that's going to make your defense run
so much smoother. So what we're going to show is a little bit of how we talk on defense.
The white is going to be on defense, they've got three offensive players. These two are
going to work against these two. They're going to talk. When the ball goes away, they're
going to tell that they're in deny, they're going to tell when they're in help side, if
somebody drives, they're going to tell them they've got their help and they're going to
help them out. The main thing is communicating here on defense. So you can hear, there was
just two of them right there, you've got remember that you're going to have three other teammates
out there in a normal situation. They're going to help you on the back. When you're in deny,
they're going to be on the ball. The more you talk on defense, the more your defense
will work.
