The Maori Party has dismissed a claim
currently before the Waitangi Tribunal made by David Rankin
which challenges the legitimacy of the Maori King,
calling the claim 'ill-informed and mischievous'.
The Maori party are rejecting Rankin's allegations
which claimed that King Tuheitia is not the Maori King.
However, Maori Party Co-Leader Pita Sharples said
the history and traditions of the Kingitanga are firmly rooted
in Mana Maori Motuhake and Tino Rangatiratanga.
He is the King of those tribes that acknowledge him.
but he does not disrespect those who support him or those who oppose.
It's not up to him.
