Hi, I'm 2kliksphilip, and this is my list of the top 5 Morrowind songs of all time!
I'm going to quickly go through the list and give you my reasons, before playing them in
full for you to enjoy. So, let's get started! In at number 5 is Battle 4- also known as
'Hunter's Persuit'. And that's exactly what it sounds like- a fast-paced chase through
the more dangerous regions of Vvardenfell. One of the more memorable and hummable battle
songs in Morrowind. Number 4 is 'Explore 4', or 'Blessing of Vivec'.
It's a melancholy piece that sounds alien and mysterious. It contains a memorable harp
sequence which is beautifully accompanied by orchestral sounds and the piece flows nicely
between several distinct themes. I like to listen to this when working on something late
at night. Number 3 is 'Explore 3', AKA 'the Road Most
Travelled'! It is one of the few songs with a tune you can hum along to. It conjures up
images of large cities and a powerful town watch keeping the peace. A positive and reassuring
song with a nice structure. Believe it or not, this song's original name was 'Main Theme'-
imagine this song being used to define the Elder Scrolls series!
Number 2 is... I'm sorry, 'Explore 2'. It just happened this way, honest! My personal
favourite of the Morrowind songs due to its peaceful build-up to its climactic chorus,
before quietening down into a withdrawn respite before ending on an eerie, all-knowing peaceful
note. I've always had a soft-spot for the minor key and this song beautifully manages
the thin line between 'too happy' and 'so depressing I want to be attacked by a cliff-racer.
Again'. If there was a song to sum up the game of Morrowind, it would very nearly be
this one. But it wasn't to be. No, Number 1 is the Title music. Jeremy Soule
must have known he was onto something here as he wrote the most memorable of the Morrowind
songs. This song has had revised versions to represent the two later games, yet this
one still appears to be a firm favourite on the internet. Morrowind's mysterious and alien
landscape is beautifully encapsulated in this dramatic and epic piece. Its structure is
simple, its tune short. But it's all the better for it.
So there you have it: my top 5 Morrowind songs. In all honesty, I didn't feel that Morrowind's
music was as good as Oblivion's or Skyrim's. The majority of the battle songs are made
to feel frantic and fast-paced, while the explore songs often lacked structure or memorable
parts. They served the game well, since you tend to be either exploring or fighting, but
as stand-alone songs, they would often seem slow and meandering, or as if they wanted
to stab you in the face. Thank you for listening to my top 5 Morrowind
songs- click on this link to hear them in full! I'm 2kliksphilip and I'm off to string
hundreds of cliff-racers together, to make the world's best fighter aircraft. Good-bye!
