Hey what's up guys? This is Geer from Game Troops, and as I'm recording this, today is
August 4th, the release date of Pikmin 3 for the Nintendo Wii U System. I went ahead and
picked up this title today digitally on the Nintendo eShop, but you can also pick up this
game at your local retailer for a price of $59.99. In this video, I'll be giving off
my initial thoughts and first impressions of this title.
Does Pikmin 3 hold up to par on what was so great about the previous two entries in the
franchise? Short and simple answer? Yes.
This is definitely the best game in the series already from what I've played, but that's
not enough to define it as a masterpiece. Change can be good, but it wasn't seen here
in Pikmin 3. But at the same time, that's not a bad thing. Pikmin 3 stays true to what
we loved about the previous two, and adds upon that with newer features and goals. Game
mechanics are effective and clean, thank to an almost flawless control system, but the
absence of a true online mode, co-op multiplayer, and the lack of any other real new features
don't help to differentiate the game from its predecessors.
During my time playing the game, I've noticed the Gamepad, while it IS an optional control
for Off-Screen TV Play, it isn't Nintendo's preference for your main controller to use.
It's advised to play with either the Wii Remote and Nunchuk Combo, or the Wii U Pro Controller.
I got the chance to try all controllers, and I do say that the Wii Remote Nunchuk combo
is by far the best way to play this game. While using this feature, the gamepad goes
into a Map Mode, allowing you to see what's ahead of you in a hawkeye view. This is a
nice tool added to the gameplay and can be useful for when trying to locate your Pikmin
and other vairous objects on the map at far distances.
Pikmin in HD looks great. Beautifully High Polished graphics make the worlds and Pikmin
themselves stand out wonderfully, and is a nice addition to the game. Storyline is simple,
yet an enjoyable family friendly one.
Pikmin 3 is an amazing game. We've waited 10 years (an entire game console generation)
for this entry to be released into the franchise, but I can already say this: Pikmin 3 doesn't
mess around with what worked in the previous two games, but rather it polishes and refines
the formula into something that stands alongside other modern titles. If you haven't picked
up a Wii U yet, this is definitely one of the big reasons to have the system. If you're
just looking for a good game for your dusty Wii U to play, you owe it to yourself to pick
this game up. From what I've played, I can tell this game was worth the wait. This is
a game that every Wii U owner should at least try, and the proof that Nintendo still is
the master in terms of game design.
