So you need a teaching bin, research and creative activity,
service, and professional development because that's how
your portfolio is actually put together.
I say get your four little bins because when you go to those
workshops that will count.
Let me open up the floor for questions for this panel.
Any questions?
Right here.
Yes?
I'd like to put in a thought for the support that the college
and the university gives us when it comes to technology.
This is an unusual campus and the [unclear audio]
technological support you get, whether it's bringing, you can
ask the IT people to send somebody to your classroom,
they'll come to your office to give you private instructions
or they could put on a special session just for the faculty,
you, or another person, or so and it really makes
a tremendous difference when you are pressed for time and/or
resources and you don't have graduate assistants all over
the place to help go out and do a bunch of stuff for you.
It's great when you can call up and ask a question or they will
provide you with new equipment, you know, we get new computers
fairly often.
Every three years.
Okay, every three years and that's, it's sort of a perk,
if you will, but it's a support that does not exist everywhere.
And I just feel extremely fortunate to come here and not
all classrooms are smart and that sort of stuff,
but they look nice.
And whatever, your basic needs are always met when it comes to
overheads and computer use for WebCT and that sort of stuff.
I think you should take advantage of Tom Grissom and,
you know, all that he has to offer, he and his staff,
because it makes a big difference in whether or not
you're able to survive and do well here.
We do have, the majority of our campus is technology enhanced
classrooms, for the most part.
You notice even in the Union all of the rooms in the Union
and University Ballroom where we're able to just hit a button
and the screen came down.
They're all technology enhanced.
And thank you for adding that because there are so many things
that we take for granted attended to higher learning
commission and a person raised their hand and said,
what do you do when a new faculty member has to go down
in the surplus and ask for a desk?
And I thought, our faculty members don't know what
that would even look like.
And you know, I just can't imagine having a new faculty
member have to go down to an old garage somewhere and ask
for a desk.
You know, but we do get new computers I think every
three years, we have faculty members who are like,
well I don't want a new computer because they just want to keep
their old computer.
But it's a nice thing that we get a new computer every
so many years.
So thank you, you're right, we have wonderful technology
on our campus.
I want to open up the floor.
I know you're on a low, you're going to get high in a moment.
I got some goodies for you, but you're on a low.
Anything that you can think of.
Thank you for talking about the portfolio,
I really appreciate that.
Yes?
(male speaker). [unclear audio].
Oh, I'm so sorry but thank you [unclear audio].
[audience applause].
He wanted to give you all a hand praise.
Let's give them a hand.
[audience applause].
He said all of his answers that he was really grappling with you
answered for him and I appreciate you articulating that
and sometimes we don't know, but that's why we call it
Different Perspectives because all of their years and years
of experiences.
I knew that John Best had been here many years, but not as long
as he articulated today and, wow, I just want us
to appreciate every faculty members' experience and know
that our resources are sometimes they're right in front of us,
you know, right in front of our nose.
And so these people are willing to share, please look at your
program for their names if you have any additional questions
that may come to your mind later.
I like what Holly said, Don Holly said something
that's very, very important.
He said I heard all of this, but I was tired.
[laughter].
I'm with you.
We didn't have an interactive Faculty Development Orientation,
we had more like the talking heads.
People just came in and gave us information and we sat for,
I think, two days.
We had none of this at all so if you could think of anything.
Do any of you mind them e-mailing, calling, anybody?
And I think we will culminate, have a break.
