Hello my friends and welcome to another Tuesday of tutorial!
We are on the Alps and I'm looking for a view
to paint the tutorial of today.
Here I am skying, oops ... cut!
This is not what I wanted my friends to see,
but that´s ok because these are drawing tips,
not skying lessons.
On a new day this is just gorgeous.
I love the light and shadow and the blue sky.
Since it snowed so much last night, the snow is very soft!
Wow! That is exactly what I wanted, I am going to stay right here
and make a sketch.
This is just going to be a fast pencil sketch and I´ll take
some pictures to then do the watercolor.
Ok, let´s do it now!
I start by outlining the slopes very lightly.
Then the mountains.
And, just an indication of where the trees will go.
Not detail at all at this point, just guidelines.
I flip the paper around and get the sky wet.
I turned it upside down because I want the water to run down
and not on the rest of the painting.
I first get the area of the sky wet...
You see it slightly blue because of the paint that was already
on my brush...
And now, let´s apply the paint.
With a tissue paper we can create some clouds.
And once is dry enough we can flip it over.
Now I´ll do the shadow of the mountains which is
a bluish gray.
Since the sun is on the back, slightly to the left, I leave
some boarders white indicating the light reflection.
I am using Windsor & Newton watercolors on Fabriano watercolor paper.
The full list of materials is in the information below the video.
I create some white spots because I want the trees to carry some
snow on them.
I get the paper wet, again.
And, once it is drying damp,
I can paint some of the shadows of the trees.
I love this effect of painting on damp paper.
Of course it will dry lighter than when you see it wet.
Once it dries we can reinforce some.
Let´s paint some smalls trees at a distance.
And some pines a little bit closer.
And some, even closer!
This is really fun!
Once the paint is dried I get everything wet again,
to erase the lines that may have happened at the border
of the mountains and to give some of the nice effects on
the damp for the plants.
Let´s flip it over, once more to reinforce the sky.
While we wait for it to dry I am just going to keep
painting upside down it does´t matter.
Let´s repaint some of the details that may have been lost with the last wash.
To indicate the distance better, I feel we need something close by,
also to compensate too much empty space on the bottom right.
So I´m going to invent some bushes that weren´t on the actual site.
Ok, I like them.
And I am going to darken a little bit more the closer slope.
Good! It´s ready!
