My name is Jason. I'm with Hi-tech Window Cleaning. In this segment, I'm going to talk
about some insurance requirements, and why they're in place. When you're a professional
window cleaner, we have to carry liability insurance, workman's comp, and we also have
an umbrella policy, as far as disability. The liability insurance is to protect the
people that we're doing their windows at, in case we drop something, break a window,
or ruin a window. We also have hi-rise insurance, and all of this can get pretty expensive.
We have a two million dollar insurance policy, and a four million dollar umbrella policy,
and the actual cost for that, with fifteen employees, is in about the twenty five hundred
dollar a month range. The reason you want to make sure when you hire a window cleaner,
that they are fully insured, is in case they damage one of your windows. The windows in
this building are about fifteen hundred dollars a piece, so if we were to ruin one and not
have insurance, the building owner would have to replace it, at their expense. The previous
window cleaners who have done this, are the janitorial company. If you can see this, it's
from etching of the window. They didn't use the acid correctly. They let it sit on the
window. It dried. They actually etched the window, and there's really no way to get rid
of this, without some really expensive grinding on the window, which doesn't always work,
so the building is going to have to pay to replace this window, at about fifteen hundred
dollars. They also used a 3M Pad on this, which was way too abrasive for the glass,
to try to get the hard water off, and it actually ended up scratching the whole window, so it
needs to be replaced, and if you find a window cleaner with good insurance, it's their responsibility
to replace this window that they have ruined, so make sure you look at your windows before
you do them, and after you do them, and if there's any discrepancies, you need to get
with the window cleaner, and see if you can remedy the situation.
