When I saw those spots on my husband's brain I thought,
I don't want to show fear and panic in front of Rodney.
I want him to see me be very calm and collected.
How do you prove that that was from contact--
Right.
--and this is a result of--
That's a really good question.
The group at USC actually tested USC football players
with MRI preseason and postseason.
And they also tested the USC swimmers as a control
group preseason and postseason.
Guess what it showed?
What?
The football players showed definite changes
in their brain postseason and the swimmers did not.
Wow.
If I had to go back and do it all over again--
-Knowing-- -I'd play again.
Knowing what you know now.
Knowing what I know now, I'd play football again.
Unfortunately, I would.
I would That's a different story about my kids.
But for me, I would have.
I don't know if he hadn't played in the NFL,
he hadn't taken so many hits, would those spots be there?
Probably not.
The scariest thing is that I was very close to Junior Seau,
and I went to school with him.
He was a teammate of mine.
You know, that still affects me, because you
didn't see it coming.
I know it's not good news, but may or may
not lead to any symptoms.
I was not prepared to even like be talking about that.
Holly and Rodney, the key thing is just
to keep a lookout for developing symptoms
and seeking medical attention if you think that he is declining.
Thank you.
All right.
You're welcome.
Thank you.
OK.
Bye-bye.
The damage to his brain is done.
Will it get worse?
Will it stay the same?
Will it get better?
I don't know.
I've just got to live right, eat right.
Right.
Stay healthy and not only exercise my body,
exercise my brain and do the right thing,
just live as long as I can, as healthy as I can.
