On Election Day, the Registrar of Voters operates as many as 5.000
polling places. They open for voting at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Every
election, registered voters such as yourself are assigned a polling place
based on your registered address.
You can find the location of your polling place on the back of your Sample
Ballot that is mailed to you before the election or by visiting www.LAVote.net
the County's official election website. You can always spot a
polling place by looking for the "Vote Here" signs posted outside the polling
place.
When you arrive at your polling place, the Roster Clerk will ask you for your
name and address. The Roster Clerk will then locate your name in the Roster of
Voters and will ask you to sign next to your name. Once you have signed the
Roster, you will be directed to the Ballot Clerk who will issue you your
ballot. The ballot clerk will show you how to use the Vote Recorder to mark
your ballot and how to fold it over to protect the privacy of your vote after
you've voted.
When you are ready, the Ballot Clerk will direct you to a voting booth. Mark your
ballot in secret by stepping into a voting booth and using one of the vote
recorder devices.
For voters with disabilities that need further assistance marking their ballot,
there are a number of devices available to help.
There is also the Audio Ballot Booth that marks your ballot using a keypad.
There are also wheelchair accessible voting booths in all Los Angeles County
polling places.
Once you have voted,
fold over your voted ballot, return it to the Ballot Box Clerk at the Official
Table. The Ballot Box Clerk will tear off the Voter Stub/Receipt from your voted
ballot and hand the ballot back to you. You insert your ballot face down into
Precinct Ballot Reader which will check to see if there are any errors on your
ballot. If you have made an error in voting your ballot or the ballot is
damaged, return the ballot to one of the pollworkers. They will then issue you
with another ballot. After you have successfully cast your ballot you'll get
an "I Voted" sticker. Your ballot will now be stored securely in the Ballot Box
until it is transported by County Sheriff's back to the Elections Office
in Norwalk, where it will be counted.
