Because I do my best, and we'll get to the agreements of Don Miguel Ruiz, I do my best,
which is the fourth agreement. Well doing one's best doesn't mean being perfect,
it means doing one's best in the relativity of what I am today, now,
within my knowledge, etc.
Let's talk about Don Miguel Ruiz, because you met him personally in Santa Fe,
Don Miguel wrote the four toltec agreements, am I right?
Yes, it is true...
Can you explain to us what is a toltec and what are the four agreements?
I know that this book is a reference, you worked with him, what happened?
He used to live in Santa Fe 17 years ago and that is when I met him. He welcomed
me and told me with a very tender air, he can be very tender and sweet, but at
the same time a very strong teacher, he told me: you are an angel, you are a
messenger. I said to myself: what is he talking about? I didn't understand at all
what he was saying. And in the toltec language an angel is a messenger
of the Divine in the sense of the life that manifests for the better in our world.
It is true that I always felt like I had this mission of connecting, of transmitting,
I always loved to teach, and of being a bridge between the US and France, with
everything I learn within ancient traditions and our modern world and our technology,
I am this bridge. Later on he moved to California, to San Diego, where his mother
was, who was a very powerful and famous mexican curandera, and who was within
this toltec tradition. I always felt that it was very important to know how to
connect with an ancient tradition. An a number of years later, the year I got my
book out, The circle of life, he got out exactly the same month his book,
The four toltec agreements. So we met, and when I saw what he was doing I said
to myself: this is wonderful!, it doesn't reinvent the wheel, everything he says
all this toltec mythology that he teaches is really very useful. I want to pass to
France also, and in that time he didn't have the fame he has now, and I agreed
with a great editor to publish the books of Don Miguel,
starting with The four agreements.
So, you participated in the process, the translation, or working with him to create
new books, or how did this happen?
No, I review the translation, I always review the translations of the books that
I publish in my collection, because I think this is very important, people must be able
to well understand things and then I kept publishing his books in France, then of
course, we kept having meetings, he continued his teachings, I went to
Teotijuacan many times, I just came back from there in August, the end of August,
we had a teachers' meeting for celebrating Don Miguel's birthday. We did that on the
pyramids in Teotijuacan, it was wonderful, and I will surely bring other people there,
to do this pilgrimage.
What is a toltec actually?
Well a toltec is someone who lives his life as an art. It is an artist of life. There have
been the tribes: the toltecs, the aztecs, different tribes who followed in Mexico,
but the idea is that it is a spiritual tradition. So they are persons who want to make
an art of their lives.
I often heard the saying that there is a connection between creativity and spirituality.
What does it mean? So, art, we are an artist in our own life, we are allowing
spiritual openness, is that it?
I think we have to think about the word art in a broader understanding.
In our culture, we see art as a picture on a wall, a museum, etc., for the toltecs,
art means being aligned with what is right in that moment, living in beauty, that's why
I have my wall behind me.
So, it's a philosophy.
Yes, it's much more, it's a philosophy of being, with people that are in their hearts, open,
loving, it's putting in place a whole context for being able to bring to the Circle of life
to the Circle of humanity, the best of ourselves and the best of the gifts that we
received.
So we need to surround ourselves with people who live in love, it is a conscious
choice that we make in a certain moment of our lives, in order to be more in the heart?
Is it possible to live completely surrounded by people who live from the heart?
It's not about exclusion. When we are ourselves, more and more, in our hearts,
in the love of ourselves and in accepting and in the love of others, we will,
by law of attraction, we will attract people who reflect this idea.
And that comes naturally also. And of course, in the street, we will always meet
people who are like-minded, I often find myself smiling on the street, and I see the
person in front of me, looking at me and smiling back. We can have an impact
on other people by being who we are and by being in this state of love for ourselves.
