So your doctor has told you that you're lactose intolerant. What does that mean to you? Does
that mean you can't drink milk anymore? Sort of. You can supplement your diet with either
changing your milk to a lactated milk, so the enzymes are added to the milk, or you
can take lactate pills if you want to have milk or dairy products, such as ice cream
or yogurt.
There are other options that you can do, such as changing to other forms of milk products,
such as almond milk, rice milk, or hemp milk. So you can still have your cereal and still
have the milk, but just not cow's milk.
People who are lactose intolerant may be able to tolerate some milk but not a lot of milk.
Usually, the cutoff is about a cup. Again, it's about the quantity of milk that you're
taking. Now, people who are lactose intolerant may be able to take yogurt or cheese, and
that's because the milk protein has actually been predigested by fermentation. So even
though you're lactose intolerant, you may be able to tolerate yogurt and cheese.
