On the morning of April 18, Bay Pines VA leaders gathered
at the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center
to reaffirm their commitment to providing timely, high quality
health care services to America's Veterans.
The focus the event was discussion about
a new initiative called MyVA Access and the
MyVA Access Declaration, a set of guiding principles for
enterprise-wide adoption to enhance health access and
improve customer service.
Our MyVA Access Declaration event today
gave an opportunity for our Pentad,
our service chiefs, and chief nurses to come together and
declare together how important access to care is for Veterans
and what we're committed to doing within the Bay Pines VA
Healthcare system to achieve that.
The centerpiece of the activity was a large MyVA
Access Declaration poster. Each leader who attended the
event signed the poster committing to its principles.
For several leaders, the MyVA Access Declaration reinforces
activities already occurring across the healthcare System
and also serves as a call to action for all employees to
participate in improving healthcare for Veterans.
There's a great emphasis on direct access for all of our
care. However without quality care,
does that really improve the Veterans experience?
And that is exactly what we're finding.
I have a wonderful example, a Veteran showed up and he said
"So when can I be scheduled for a test?"
and the response was "How about right now?"
And he did that.
He got his hearing aids in forty-eight hours and he came
back to tell us. He said you've changed our life.
So we can do it all. We can provide the quality.
We can provide the access, and quite frankly even the
employees find that this is a better way to deliver their
services, so they're actually more satisfied with the work
that they are doing than they were before.
When we look at access, we also look at, you mentioned
our housekeeping section.
So in terms of giving Veterans same day access,
our bed makers and our housekeeping employees have to
do their check list of activities to make sure those
rooms are turned in timely. That way the patients
can be seen by the Doctors and the Nursing.
Our purpose is to serve the Veteran and we're going to do
everything we can to do that the best way possible.
And that's going to be by training staff,
by bringing on additional staff,
by building our infrastructure so that when a Veteran has a
need, we address that need, as quickly as possible.
And our goal is same day, or within twenty-four hours
addressing a Veteran's need so that they feel confident that
the care they're receiving is world class. And that is
the care we're going to deliver here at Bay Pines.
