>> One of the attractions at the Iowa State Fair is the food
whether you're seeking a traditional favorite or planning
something new for each day of your extended stay.
The Iowa State Fair food finder app can assist in your planning.
>> This is a free app that was launched three years ago.
This will be the fourth year we're putting it out there for
fair visitors. And it's a web app as well as
an iphone app you can download from the Apple store.
It shows you various foods you can find at the Fair vendors and
maps so when you're at the Fair you can easily find what you're
looking for. It's a free app so there's no
charge at all to use it. And you simply launch the app
and you're on your phone and use the menu to navigate.
>> Fair goers are finding uses for the app from locating
classics to food on a stick. >> I'll show you how I used it
last year even after I made it, the big food at the fair last
year was the bacon corn dog, double bacon corn dog and I
really wanted to try that. I didn't know where it was so I
pulled out my iphone and fired up the app and find it right
away and went and got in the big long line for the double bacon
corn dog. >> The number of options for
delicious fried food on a stick and sweet treats seems to be
endless. But the food finder app can
identify and locate the Fair's healthier options too.
>> Let's over 200 food stands on the fair ground.
50 different food on a stick and we also have many healthy
options including salad on a stick.
So there's even healthy food here at the Fair.
>> In 2012, a special feature was added to display nutrition
information for each food item. It also allows you to calculate
how long you would need to exercise to burn off the
calories in each of those foods. >> You can find out how long you
would have to walk around the Fair to burn off those onions.
Approximately seven hours and 45 minutes.
>> They hate me for creating this but they say that jokingly.
Nobody wants to know just how badly they are eating at the
fare but it's kind of nice to now.
>> We also added a calendar of events so each day of the Fair
you can find out what are some of the healthy events going on
and that's not physical activity and new fruition but the grape
stomping going on or comedians and stuff like that.
>> With so many tempting options and an app to help you choose,
Fair goers already have a wish list already in mind.
>> The pepper minted sandwich thing.
>> I get the corn dog and the pork chop.
>> I like it all. >> Having special foods here and
there once a year is not a problem.
>> Everyone looks forward to the Fair and one of the things you
look forward to is all the great food there.
You don't really think about how bad it is for you just how good
it tastes and it can be good the next week.
>> After all, happiness is the food you eat at the Iowa State
Fair.
