Sharp eyes - Big teeth
The Upper Cretaceous of North America
67 millions of years ago
A young Parasaurolophus runs for its life
The forest's thick underbrush provides an excellent hiding place
It is pursued by an adult Tyrannosaurus Rex
following the trail
The nearly 4 meter high colossus is hungry
but has lost sight of its prey for a moment
The young Hadrosaurs colour blends in with the vegetation
camouflaging it from predators
But the T-Rex's eyes are sharp
This gives him a decisive edge in the hunt
His view is directed straight-forward
so his fields of vision overlap and create a three dimensional view
Both eyes see the prey from slightly different angles
resulting in a stereoscopic vision
The seemingly undetectable Parasaurolopus
is spatially separated from the background
and is uncovered
Heavy shaking breaks its neck quickly
Worn and damaged teeth may stick to the flesh
and break off
The T-Rex is not affected by the loss
And it has a reason why
Within both jaws new teeth are already growing
For every lost tooth
a new one erups within a few days
The lost tooth stays at the scenery
It will be found 67 million years later by humans
A testament of events that took place here at a time before memory
