Stanton: Traveling to New York City to premiere a new
symphony in Carnegie Hall was one of the most memorable
moments here at KU.
My name is Stanton Nelson, I'm a senior, I'm a piano
performance major.
I came to KU because of Dr. Winerock, my current teacher.
He is such a wonderful person, mentor, counselor in a sense.
I felt right at home when he gave me my first lesson.
Even though KU doesn't have the notoriety as Juilliard or
Peabody or the Curtis Institute, it provides a lot of
opportunities for performance.
The instruction is more personal.
For example, I have one on one conducting classes with
Professor Tucker, I have one on one coaching classes with
Professor Broxholm.
So the student teacher ratio is quite small.
Dr. Winerock: And show us that change.
Stanton: My stay at the University of Kansas has been
truly wonderful.
My peers, colleagues, friends, they're so dedicated.
You really do need connections and relationships to be
successful in the field of music.
KU was an excellent step into my upcoming masters degree
because the teachers I studied with have wonderful connections.
I was looking for more of a community.
The School of Music definitely provides that.
