hey everyone and welcome to Photoshop Pro Help and today I'm going to be teaching you
this really cool Bokeh effect, now this effect is really easy and simple to create and with
this effect you can change mostly everything, you can change the colour and you can change
the shape and the effects so with the shape you can have any shape that's in Photoshop
or you can download hundreds of thousands off of the internet which you might want to
use and with the colour you can have any colour that you wish to create the desired effect
that you are after, so first things first we are going to go and make a "brush" now
if you don't now how to make the brushes then I'm going to be showing you how in a minute
but this brush that we are going to create is specially designed for the Bokeh effect,
so first things first is go up to "file" and then go to "new" and I'm going to have a "width"
of "1920" pixels and the "Hight" is going to be "1200" pixels and then go and click
"OK", from here we are going to go and change the background colour, so go to the "paint
bucket tool" which is on the left hand side and we are going to change the "foreground
colour" which you can do on the bottom left hand side and I'm going to have a "dark grey"
which is going to be "313030" then click "OK" and then click and you will get this dark
grey, now from here we are going to make a "new blank layer" and you can do this on the
bottom right hand side and we are just going to go and hide the "background layer" and
for this we are going to make our brush for this, now you can really go in depth and create any
brush that you wish, you can use the pen tool or any shape that you want to make but for
me I'm just going to go and show you quickly on how to make a simple brush for this, so
we are going to go over to the shapes and we are going to click the "ellipse tool" down
on the shapes and you will get a list come up and click "ellipse" and go to the centre
of your page and hold down "shift" and then drag out, what this does is it makes a perfect
circle, now before you make your circle you want to make sure that you have the colour
"black" selected as your "foreground colour" and then go and drag out and make the circle,
from here we are going to go and change the "fill" to "50%" and then we are just going
to "double click" that layer and it will bring up the "layer styles" and we are going to
go over to "stroke" and we are going to put a stroke of around "10%" "10 pixels" sorry
and then go to the position of "inside" and then click "OK", now once you have done that
you have your shape already set up, there you go, all you need to do now is go to "edit"
and then we are going to go to "define brush preset" and then name your brush, once you
have done that click "OK" and there you go, you have your brush, now as I said don't just
go for the circle create any shape that you want to make, now from here we are just going
to go and "delete" that cause we have already done that and what we are going to do is make
a "new blank layer" and from here we are going to go and make it the same colour as the original
background, so that is a code of "313030" again, then "paint bucket tool" and then change
that, we are going to double click that layer and that brings up the "layer styles" and
from here we are going to go to the "gradient overlay" now you want to go and click the
"gradient", now from this bit you can really have any colour that you want, you can have
as many colours or as little colours, I'm just going to go for the "spectrum" because its
quick and easy for this tutorial then click "OK" and we are going to have the "blending
mode" to "overlay" and the "angel" is going to be "45" from here we are going to click
"OK" and then we are going to go and make a "new blank layer" and from here we are going
to make a "folder" so you can do this by the bottom right hand side you will see a little
folder icon and we are going to go and drop that new "blank layer" into that "group" and
we are going to click on the "folder" and put it as "colour dodge" so go and find that
in the drop down menu, make sure that you have the new "blank layer" selected, go over
to the top right hand side and go and click the "brush icon" and from here you can go
and select your shape or your brush, whatever you want to make, so I'm just going to go
for the puzzle pieces again and then I'm going to put this down to around about "500 pixels"
and we want to make sure that we are colouring in "white" so make sure you have "white" as
your "foreground" colour and from here we are going to go over to the "brush presets"
so we got the "brush options" on the right hand side you will see all of this or if you
don't have all that you can go over to "window" and then go to "brush" here, so from this
box here we are going to go to "shape dynamics" and you want to put the "size jitter" up to
"100%" and you want to put the "minimum diameter" to "50%" and then you can leave the rest of
the options alone and then we are going to go over to "scattering" and you want to make
sure you have the "scatter" up to "1000%" and then the "current" to "5%" and the "current
jitter" to "1%" and then we are going to go over to "transfer" and you want to make sure
you got the "opacity" to "50%" and the "flow jitter" to "50%" also, now once you have done
that you can close that and from here we are just going to go over and click, randomly
like so, don't do to many and from here we are just going to go up to "filter" and go
up to "blur" and then "Gaussian blur", now you want to put around about "20 pixels" for
this then click "OK" and we are going to bring the "brush size" down to around about "400
pixels" and then make a "new blank layer" on the bottom right hand side and then we
are just going to go over again and as you can see its changing the "brush size" for
us and from here we are just going to go up to "filter" again and "blur" and then "Gaussian
blur" and we are going to change the "radius" to "4 pixels" then click "OK" and make a "new
blank layer" on the bottom right hand side and we are going to change the "brush size"
down to "250 pixels" and then we are just going to go over again, like that, now as
you can see I did swap the brushes for the other one, I did have two puzzle brushes for
this but I'm just using one just to quickly show you what you can create, you can just
swap between Bokeh brushes to create a different effect, so once you have got the desired effect
that you want we are going to go back up to "filter" then "blur" and then "Gaussian blur"
and we are just going to put the "radius" down to "1%" "1 pixel" sorry and then click
"OK" and that's about it, your pretty much done, that is the Bokeh effect, as I said
play around with it and play around with the settings, colours and the shapes, go and create
as many shapes as you want, the puzzle brush all you really need to do is go and change
like I showed you on how to create a brush, just change the settings to the original brush
I showed you and that's pretty much it, you can create this stunning Bokeh effect, really
easy and really fast and you can use it for basically anything you want, so please comment,
rate and subscribe, please go and check out the website and I'll see you next time guys,
Bye for now.
