Welcome to Pori, the nice summer city
that explodes to life with Pori Jazz Festival
Winter months being more quiet
There is a saying in Pori about dragging
someone in a basket at the market place
Luckily it hasn't happened to me yet, even though I have lived here a couple of years
Pori is known as the Bear City
But bear is not the animal seen the most in the streets
There is another, winged, creature that has made the city its home
Wonder what it might be?
Birdwatching in the city
All trips begin somewhere
You can get to Pori by rail from Tampere
For busy ones there is an airport near the center
Ofcourse there is always the possibility of traveling by car
In my opinion public transport is wonderfully easy
One can just concentrate on travelling
Relax, read, listen to music, eat a snack
Or just watch the changing scenery, let the mind flow free
In these train you can find nostalgy
And this is armchair travel at its best!
Living in the heart of Satakunta region, I have come to the conclusion
that the people of Pori are accused of being withdrawn for no reason
Once you get used to the noisy and quick style of talking,
you can make real friends with a "Porilainen"
The city is small, but the centre is dense and nice
And you can find lovely housing areas of wooden houses, too
You can see the rail road track!
Just a stone-throw away from the market square a rook community resides.
These messy and sweed citybirds
And this is the reason why rooks raise so many opinions
If they are loved, they surely are hated as well
Hey, did something drop there?
Is there something there?
Corbus frugilegus by its latin name, can be recognized
by its bare part at the bill, and its rough call
It is smaller than a raven, and a migrant
That traveles to Southern Scandinavia for winter
Even though the rook is a pest of a kind
the Pori citizens taken it as their mascot and the town's symbol
When travelling in an urban environment
you can make interesting new animal acquaintances
Like the rook in Pori
