Last weekend we were in Madrid because I wanted to celebrate my birthday.
We went on Friday by train because it is fast and comfortable.
The train was going at 300 km per hour.
We arrived at the Atocha train station.
We took the subway
and walked through the Puerta del Sol.
There were many people.
In the evening, we saw a musical in the Gran Via.
The tickets were expensive, they cost 82 euros,
but the show was fantastic. There were many actors on the stage.
And it had some very nice songs. We had a good time.
We went to bed late. We slept in a big apartment,
which had a hall and two bedrooms and was next to the Royal palace.
The next day we had chocolate with "churros" (like fritters) for breakfast
because it's a typical breakfast of Madrid. The chocolate was hot
and the "churros" were freshly made.
In the morning, it was sunny and the weather was nice and we went on the cable car.
The city view was impressive.
Later we walked along the Alcala street and came to Cibeles square.
We went into a bar that had very big squid sandwiches.
Eveyone ate squid sandwiches.
In the afternoon we took lots of photos in Plaza Mayor.
of a sculpture that was in the center of the square.
My friends wanted to see a football match. They were in the Real Madrid stadium
and saw the players.
I don't like football and I went to the Prado museum
to see Velazquez paintings.
The tickets didn't cost me anything because it was the international day of museums.
In the evening, we looked for a place to have dinner. We saw lots of "tapas" restaurants.
Finally we ate in a very curious-looking restaurant that had bulls' heads on the walls.
We asked for tripe, sausage, a salad and eggs with potatoes and ham.
The tripes were delicious. I drank a beer that was very cold.
On Sunday we woke up early and went to the Rastro (fleamarket).
There were many people shopping and walking.
We bought a T-shirt that we liked a lot because it was very entertaining.
We also came across a group that played music.
There was a woman dancing and people watching her.
When the dance finished, the crowd applauded her.
Later we went to Retiro park. We walked in the garden and around the lake,
but we didn't ride a boat because were tired.
In the park, there was a market of used books.
You could buy books for 3 euros.
On Sunday afternoon, we took another train
and went back home because on Monday we had to work.
We liked Madrid a lot,
we want to go back there next year.
